Astrid’s Perspective: The Best Smelling City on Earth

If there’s one thing I know as a dog, it’s that some places smell way better than others. And Lockhart, Texas? Oh boy, this place is a dog’s dream come true! My humans say it’s the BBQ Capital of Texas, but all I know is that the air is thick with the smoky, meaty, mouthwatering scent of the best bar-b-que ever. It’s like a cloud of deliciousness that follows us everywhere.

Lockhart BBQ Tour: A Dog’s Dream and a Jeep’s Adventure

We’re staying at Lockhart State Park, which my humans say was built by something called the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) a long time ago. Honestly, I don’t care who built it, all I know is that it has birds to chase, squirrels to bark at, and tons of trails for me to sniff.

But the real excitement? BBQ. So. Much. BBQ.

Last time we were here (which is, like, a whole lifetime ago in dog years), my humans only tried two of the famous BBQ joints—Black’s BBQ and Smitty’s Market. They said both were amazing, but we still had unfinished business. This time, we were on a mission to complete what they called “The Lockhart BBQ Tour.” That meant two more stops: Kreuz Market and Chisholm Trail BBQ.

Billy’s Perspective: Jeeping and Eating Our Way Through BBQ Heaven

Now, let’s get something straight—I’m not just any Jeep. I’m Billy the Gladiator, a trail-conquering, off-road-loving beast of a machine. And when my humans decided we were going back to Lockhart, Texas, I knew we were in for a great adventure. Not only does this place have some serious BBQ history, but the trails around Lockhart State Park make for some sweet Jeeping.

We’re still rolling in style with our Freespirit tent, but my humans keep talking about picking up “Chuck.” At first, I thought Chuck was some cool new off-road buddy, but turns out Chuck is a small Patriot camper. Which, let’s be honest, just means more space for gear, BBQ leftovers, and a comfy place for Astrid to nap while I do all the work driving.

But back to what matters—BBQ.

First up was Kreuz Market. Now, I don’t have taste buds, but judging by the happy noises my humans made while devouring their brisket and sausage, this place was a winner. I heard them say something about how the meats were cooked the “old-school way,” without sauce, because true Texas BBQ doesn’t need it. Astrid was losing her mind from the smell, practically drooling all over the pavement.

Then came the final stop—Chisholm Trail BBQ. My humans were excited about this one, and wow, I could tell why. As soon as we pulled up, Astrid went nuts, her tail wagging at full speed. She swore it was the best-smelling BBQ joint of them all. My humans agreed! They said the flavors were unreal and that this was their new favorite in Lockhart. Astrid tried to lick the entire floor of the restaurant, but apparently, that’s frowned upon (which is unfair, in my opinion).

Astrid’s Final Thoughts: Can We Move Here?

I don’t ask for much. A comfy spot to sleep, a good belly rub, and maybe a taste of whatever my humans are eating. But this trip? This was next-level amazing. Lockhart isn’t just a place—it’s a dreamland for a dog like me. The smells alone are worth the trip, and let’s be honest, I wouldn’t mind living here forever if it meant I could get BBQ scraps every day.

Now, we’re on the road again, heading to pick up Chuck the camper. I’m not sure what that means for our adventures, but if it involves more BBQ, hikes, and Jeep rides, I’m all in.

Until next time, Lockhart. Stay smoky and delicious!

Billy’s Final Thoughts: Back on the Road, But Not for Long

Lockhart, you never disappoint. From BBQ joints steeped in history to the rugged beauty of Lockhart State Park, this trip was one for the books. But now, it’s time to hit the road again—destination: Chuck.

I don’t know where our next stop is, but one thing’s for sure—this Jeep was built for adventure, and with Astrid and my humans along for the ride, there’s no telling where we’ll end up next.

Until then, keep the tires rolling and the BBQ smoking!
